Looking for a life partner online can bring families together across long distances. It also means meeting people you don’t yet know. A few simple habits keep your family safe.
Keep the family involved
The safest searches are family searches. Invite parents, brothers, sisters or other trusted relatives to your family account, so more than one person sees every conversation. Talk to the other family in the family group chat, and make sure you know who is in it — Vivaham shows each person’s name, relationship and whether they are verified.
Don’t share contact details too early
- Keep talking inside Vivaham until you have come to know the other family. Share phone numbers only when both sides are ready.
- Never share your address, documents, bank details or private photos with anyone you have met online.
- Be careful if someone asks to move to WhatsApp or a phone call before an interest is even accepted.
Watch for these warning signs
People who traffic young women and men often use the promise of marriage or a job. Stop and talk to your family — and report it to us — if someone:
- offers a job, money or travel (tickets, a place to stay in a city) before your families have met,
- is in a great hurry to marry, or wants the bride or groom to travel far away alone,
- will not let you meet or speak to their family,
- says your family will not have to spend anything for the wedding, or talks about money before the families know each other,
- seems to be contacting many families at once, or acts like an agent.
Meet in person, with family
Before any decision, meet the other family in person, in a place your family chooses, with your own relatives present. Visit their home and village if you can, and ask people you trust about them. A genuine family will understand.
Use Block and Report
You can block anyone, and report a profile or message with one tap — by voice too. Our safety team reviews reports, and our systems also look out for warning signs. You can also pause or hide your profile at any time.
