It also means meeting people you don’t yet know. A few simple habits keep your family safe.

Keep the family involved

The safest searches are family searches. Invite parents, brothers, sisters or other trusted relatives to your family account, so more than one person sees every conversation. Talk to the other family in the family group chat, and make sure you know who is in it — Vivaham shows each person’s name, relationship and whether they are verified.

How community filters work on Vivaham

When elders arrange a marriage, they already know their community’s customs: which clans are related as brothers, and which families are suitable. On Vivaham, we try to bring that knowledge into the search — without taking the decision away from your family.

Two filters to start with

Every profile starts with two filters switched on:

Same tribe only. You see people from your own tribe.

Exclude same clan. You don’t see people from your own clan — whatever your community calls it: gotra, kur, killi, paris or another name. In matrilineal communities such as the Khasi and Garo, this is the mother’s clan.

Filters for your own community

Many communities have more customs than these two. A Gond family may look at the saga — the number of gods a family worships. Others look at the mother’s clan, or avoid marriages within the same village. Vivaham shows the filters that apply to your tribe only.

Grievance Officer

If you have a complaint about Vivaham — about content or a member, about how your personal data is handled, or about these policies — you can write to our Grievance Officer.
Over the coming months we will share how Vivaham works, how we keep families safe, and how communities can help us get their rules right.

About Vivaham

Mainstream matrimony apps were not built for tribal families. They ask about caste and horoscopes, not tribe and clan; they are built for individuals, not families; and very few tribal families use them.

Vivaham is built the other way around: family-led, within community rules, with verification, consent and safety at the centre.

Vivaham is operated by HappyChases Media Works (OPC) Private Limited, Raipur, Chhattisgarh.

Community rules, explained

Every tribal community has its own customs about who may marry whom. In many communities, people marry within the tribe but outside their own clan — the clan may be called gotra, kur, killi, paris or by another name. Some communities also look at the clan group (such as the Gond saga or the Koya gotram), the mother’s clan, or the village. In matrilineal communities such as the Khasi and Garo, the clan comes from the mother.

Contact us

We would love to hear from you — whether you have a question, want to help us get your community’s rules right, or need help with your account.

How much does Vivaham cost?

Vivaham is free at launch. If we ever add paid features, we will say so clearly before anyone pays, and they will always be charges for using the service only.

Who can join?

Vivaham is for members of a tribe that is listed as a Scheduled Tribe (ST) in at least one state of India — even if you now live in a state where your tribe is not listed. Your faith never matters: whatever your faith or religion, you are welcome.

For families

In tribal communities, marriage is a matter for the whole family. Vivaham is built for that: parents, brothers, sisters and other relatives can take part in the search, while the young person stays in control of their own profile.

One family account, several children

A family account can hold a profile for each son or daughter who is looking to marry. A parent can manage both a son’s and a daughter’s search from one place.

Up to 8 family members can join the account.

Each member logs in with their own mobile number and OTP, even on a shared phone, and signs out when they are done.

New members join by invitation. A family admin, or the bride or groom whose profile is in the account, approves them.

Every action is recorded with the name of the person who did it, so the family always knows who changed what.

Who can do what

There are three roles for each profile: the profile owner (the bride or groom), the family admin, and family members. The table shows what each can do by default. The bride or groom can change these permissions for each family member on their own profile.

How Vivaham works

Vivaham works the way marriages are already arranged in many tribal communities: families take part, community rules are respected, and the young people decide. We add verification, consent and safety on top.

1. Sign up with your own mobile number

Anyone in the family can start — the young person, or a parent, sibling or other relative. Everyone signs up with their own mobile number and a one-time code (OTP). There are no shared passwords.

Safety & verification

Your family’s safety comes first. Some people misuse marriage — or the promise of a job — to trick young women and men into leaving home. Vivaham is built so that it cannot be used for this, and so that you know what to watch out for.

Need help now?

181 Women Helpline

112 Police and emergency

Who can join

Vivaham is only for tribal communities: members of a tribe listed as a Scheduled Tribe (ST) in at least one state. Only verified members can see profiles. Nothing about any member is shown on this website.

Age rule: by law, men must be at least 21 and women at least 18 to marry. Every profile’s date of birth is checked against an ID document before the profile can be seen. Nobody can create a profile for someone under this age.

The bride or groom must verify their own mobile number and give their own consent. Every family member on the account must also verify their mobile number.

Your ID documents are never shown to anyone

ID documents are encrypted and kept in separate, private storage used only for ID documents. They never have a public link.

They are never shown to other members, to your own family members, or to the other family. Others only see a “verified” badge.

For Aadhaar we accept only the masked Aadhaar from UIDAI, which hides the first 8 digits, and we never store your full Aadhaar number. A full Aadhaar uploaded by mistake is deleted as soon as our team reviews it.

Only a small number of authorised staff can open a document, only when a check needs a person, and every time they do, it is recorded: who, when, which document and why.

When you delete your account, your ID documents are deleted too.

Contact details stay private

Phone numbers are not shown on profiles. Families first talk inside Vivaham’s family group chat, and phone numbers are shared only when both sides choose to.

Success stories

Every story here is shared only because both the bride and the groom chose to share it, after they married. Sharing is always off unless both of them turn it on, and our team reviews every story before it is published. We never publish contact details or anything from members’ profiles.
